The South Korean smartphone giants are all set to rumble. According to a recent report by Korea’s ET Now, LG and Samsung have fixed the date to unveil their flagship smartphones.
LG has decided to start shipping its upcoming LG G6 globally starting March 10, with the pre-orders for the device begin starting March 2. Samsung on the other hand has decided to release its Galaxy S8 starting April 21.
According to the information tipped from a high-ranking official for a mobile network provider in South Korea, the reason Samsung is putting its step back and letting LG take the lead here is because it wants to be prepared with enough supplies to meet the global demand.
The report also tells that Samsung has revamped its marketing strategy and will react on the response that the LG G6 receives. The report states that If Samsung sees that the G6 is getting a positive feedback, it could begin pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 earlier than the expected date. Surprisingly, there is no hint of the Galaxy S8 Plus
Both the devices are set to perform neck-to-neck according to the rumoured specifications. As mentioned earlier, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is expected to be available in two different variants- Samsung Galaxy S8 with 5.7-inch QHD display, and a Galaxy S8 Plus, with a larger 6.2-inch display.
Both the Galaxy S8 and S8+ are expected to be rocking Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor paired with up to 6GB of RAM. The device is also expected to reveal its AI bot Bixby along with the devices. The devices are also expected to sport dual-pixel cameras at the back for better low-light performance. Exact specifications remain unknown as of now.
LG G6, on the other hand, is expected to sport an almost bezel-less 5.7-inch QHD panel. Moreover, the device would also eliminate the home button, keeping only the display at the front. Under the hood, the device is expected to be rocking a slightly dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM.
The device is also expected to sport a dual-camera setup at the back, similar to its predecessor, the G5 and the recently unveiled LG V20. The device is also expected to be pre-loaded with Google Assistant.
