LG G6 Finally Here

LG G6 has unveiled recently in the Mobile World Congress 2017. It is expected to release in India on 20th April with a starting price of Rs. 49,999. The phone has already created a buzz. It is a crucial release for LG after making losses for a year with G5 and V20. However, it has come with a promising phone this time. The phone ranges in the high budget range. Can it compete with the likes of Google Pixel XL and iPhone 7 Plus?
LG G6: Design and Build

It comes with two types of body protection. The front has Gorilla Glass 3 protection while the back has Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Otherwise, the body is quite simple and made of a sturdy metal frame. The 5.7inch Quad HD screen boasts of 18:9 screens whereas regular smartphones feature 16:9 screens. At the back, there is the fingerprint sensor and the camera. But despite its 5.7inch display, LG G6 is smaller and easier to hold than iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel XL.

Performance and Software

Although it features Snapdragon 821 instead of 835 LG is optimistic. It’s because the 821 used is in the third generation. So it would have better user optimization function. 835 didn’t add much to the mix other than that LG said.

To test out this theory we swiped through video games, multitasking, and heavy internet browsing. LG G6 gave a smooth performance through multitasking. Only when we were live streaming some videos on Facebook did we notice some lag. But live streaming tends to do that.

The best part is that even during heavy gaming the frame rate never dropped. You can trust LG to give you a good gaming experience on G6. But, it comes with 4G RAM and only 32GB of internal memory. There is a microSD to expand the memory, but at this price, we expected a 64GB starting memory. The new phone comes with Android 7.0 Nougat update, and the UI allows you a smooth experience.

Camera

LG said that it has found that almost 50% of the people use the wide-angle camera. So it bumped up the 8MP to 13MP. The snaps don’t look that well in low-light. The rear camera is 13MPs with f/1.8 aperture and comes with a 125-degree angle wide lens. LG claimed that we could switch between the cameras without any apparent lag. However, we noticed a tiny flicker during the switch. Nevertheless, the images looked crisp and detailed in bright light.

Battery

LG has released two versions – one with wireless charging and one without. The latter was given to the European buyers. The 3300 mAh nonremovable battery easily lasts a full day. It comes with fast charging facility too which continues to give Android an edge over iPhone 7 Plus. Although the non-removable feature of the battery might annoy some LG users, it could also be a boon. The battery is spill-proof now.

Final Verdict

Some of the features are not the same globally. But it is an upgrade from LG G5 and G4. The design does no strike at first, but soon you realize that it is very handy. LG has given a clever update to its software and hardware. Users will like this new entrant in the market.
